About

Where molecular understanding meets material function

PCFM brings together two communities that rarely share a room: researchers who study molecules — reaction dynamics, spectroscopy, electronic structure and simulation — and those who design, model and characterise functional materials. The common question is how understanding at the molecular level becomes function in a material. Three days of invited lectures, contributed talks and posters in Ohrid.

    Getting there

Ohrid has its own airport (OHD), nine kilometres from the town. In summer it has direct flights from Istanbul, Vienna, Zurich and Belgrade, and low-cost routes to Basel, Milan, Memmingen, Dortmund, Bratislava and several Polish cities. Istanbul–Ohrid takes under two hours.

Skopje and Tirana are the usual alternatives, each about three hours away by road, with flights all year. Skopje is served from Istanbul, Vienna, Zurich, Athens and Warsaw and has a wide low-cost network across Western Europe, including London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona and Berlin. Tirana has the widest choice of full-service connections, including Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, Istanbul, London, Paris and Athens. Scheduled coaches and private transfers run on both routes.

Travellers from outside Europe will find Istanbul, Vienna and Zurich the most convenient hubs, with onward flights to all three airports.

Airlines and schedules for summer 2027 will be confirmed with the final programme.

    The host university

    UIST · Ohrid

PCFM 2027 will be held at the University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle” (UIST) in Ohrid. Invited lectures, parallel sessions and posters take place on the university campus.

Ohrid's walled old town rises above the lake, with Byzantine churches, narrow streets and a long waterfront. Sessions run by day; the evenings belong to the old town and the lake.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

    Is registration open?

Yes. Register to create your PCFM-ID in a minute; it is free and no abstract is required. If you wish to present, you can submit an abstract separately with the same PCFM-ID. Creating a PCFM-ID does not by itself confirm your participation: fees are paid from your PCFM-ID card from 15 November 2026, presenting authors pay once their abstract has been accepted, and your place is confirmed when the fee is paid. See registration and fees.

Does paying early improve my chances of a talk?

No. Talks and posters are allocated on the basis of scientific evaluation alone. Payment confirms an accepted presentation in the programme; it plays no part in the review.

    Can I pay by card?

Yes, by bank transfer or card, from your PCFM-ID card once payment opens. Card payments are subject to a processing fee; the exact amount is shown before you confirm.

How many abstracts can I submit?

One abstract per person. You can edit it until the abstract deadline, 28 February 2027. There is no template file: you type the abstract into the online form. Abstract guidelines and an example.

How quickly will I hear back about my abstract?

Abstracts are reviewed as they arrive, not all at once after the deadline. The earlier you submit, the sooner you hear back. That leaves time to arrange institutional approval and travel funding.

What is included in the fee?

Access to all scientific sessions, the conference kit and abstract book, coffee breaks and lunches, the conference dinner, and a certificate of participation.

    Do I need a visa?

North Macedonia is currently visa-free for citizens of the EU/Schengen area, the United Kingdom and the United States, for holders of ordinary Turkish passports and for much of the surrounding region. Please check the requirements for your nationality, with links to the official sources; the secretariat can help with conference documents for your visa application.

How do I get to Ohrid?

Ohrid has its own airport with summer flights from Istanbul and several European cities. Skopje and Tirana are the alternatives, about three hours away by road. See Venue & travel; detailed travel guidance is published with the final programme.

Will the conference be hybrid or online?

PCFM 2027 is currently planned as an in-person event. Any change will be posted here.
